Different roles for different souls​

Are you someone that enjoys being outdoors? Do you have a love for adrenaline? If that is you, then you would probably enjoy joining a crew as a firefighter.

Do you prefer numbers and organisation? Maybe Logistics or Dispatch is your calling?

Whatever your skills are, you are bound to find a fitting role in the VWS.

Join the VWS

Each year (generally March and early April) the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) opens up our doors for new volunteers, this allows us to ensure that the prerequisite training is completed during the winter months (late April to October) and that both our new members and existing alike have had the opportunity to both refresh and learn critical skills in order to keep them safe on the fire line.

Interested being a:

Firefighter

Every member of our team is a true hero, juggling their day jobs, studies, and businesses with the unwavering commitment to our cause.

Their passion, motivation, and rigorous training make them a force to be reckoned with, ensuring that our goals of wildfire suppression and integrated fire management are always achieved.

Whether they’re out in the field or working behind the scenes, our dedicated team members stand ready to protect our communities and natural resources with all their might.

Interested being a:

Driver

The literal engine room of the VWS. These volunteers not only make sure our crews get to and from the fires quickly and safely, but they are often positioned as key lookouts in case the fire behaviour changes and play a key role maintaining safety for our crews.

They do not just drive vehicles, they are some of our most experienced firefighters and can often be found liaising on strategy or teaching and our volunteers.

Marketing

Is social media  your thing? How about design, PR and comms?

If so, then marketing is the team for you!

This team thrives off of creativity, engaging with the community and executing of campaigns and collateral for events!

Planning & Control

There is a team of unknown heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our firefighters can do their jobs effectively.

These men and women are the responsible for planning, deploying, monitoring and maintaining the effectiveness of our crews. They work around the clock, always keeping the safety of our firefighters as their top priority and only stand down once the last firefighter is home safe and sound.

When we get the call to spring in to action, they ensure we deploy the right resources to the areas where they are needed.

Fundraising & Events

Our fundraising and events team are the driving force behind our ability to keep doing what we love.  Through their tireless and continuous efforts, they work to create awareness of our organisation’s mission and duty among the wider public.

As volunteers with ‘other jobs’ they plan and execute major events like our Open Day and Trail Run yearly. With their dedication and infectious enthusiasm, they inspire our supporters to dig deep and help us achieve our goals.

We owe them a debt of gratitude for their unwavering commitment to our cause, and without them, we would not be able to continue our life-saving work.

Logistics & Support

These amazing volunteers take care of all the behind the scenes needs. Not only do they ensure our equipment and vehicles are maintined and ready for the our crews, they also ensure our volunteers have the correct PPE for their role.

They ensure our tired crews are fed after a deployment and that they have what they need to serve our communities.
